Writing this newsletter has been super difficult for some reason. It should be a very exciting piece because it’s been 1 year of freelance and it is time to reflect, but for some reason it has been really hard to approach. The 1 year anniversary date was March 30th and it’s April 21st. Idk it feels like maybe if I do look back and reflect everything falls apart haha. Or maybe you all are tired of my talking about it all. Doing personal articles call for so much vulnerability that it is hard most of the time. But here we go!
I think what I want to talk about is the 4 moments of the last year that I’m the proudest of:
Not giving up on freelance
In this past year there has been some really hard moments. Like at least 2 months of no work coming in. Which that really sucked. But at the end of the day I still believe this is the right way to live life for me. It feels like I’ve actually been able to control my own fate and discover the things that I truly like about myself. I’ve been able to actually offer real solutions to my clients having more of an effect on their work. There really is no other option for me and I like it that way.
Fiverr Project - The Future Collective
This project didn’t come until august, but really kicked everything off for the year. During the concept stages the team I was working with from Fiverr pulled up one of my lettering illustrations as inso for the project. That kinda blew my mind, but showed me that I was on to something and to keep going. You can see the project here!
Season 1 of Creative Questions podcast
In the first season I really got to talk to some of the ppl who have been inspiring me since I was working in corporate America sitting at a desk watching YouTube and scrolling instagram. It meant so much to get to sit with them and for them to get to share who they are with my audience. Season 1 of the podcast is here!
Adobe Livestream
I feel like if I didn’t work with Adobe this year I still would have been fine. The opportunity to do a livestream I figured would come eventually. But it is really cool that it came in the first year. especially on my mom’s birthday! Again I was an engineer at my desk watching these livestreams trying to learn as much as I could and then to turn into the person on the screen is kind of crazy. I have worked so hard for the last 4 years since leaving aerospace engineering. I still have a chip on my shoulder haha (and probably always will because that’s where my fire comes from), but getting that call did give me some validation that I can be exactly who I want to be. If you missed the livestream you can watch the rewatch here!
What’s to Come in Year 2
A new season of the podcast is currently on the way. More digital and physical products. More creating in general. It’s been the best feeling to make things no matter the medium and just have them exist in the world. I’m getting to the point where I’m forgetting about some of the things that I have made and to me it’s an awesome feeling! In year 2 I also want to get the PWR brand more together which has been a journey of understanding who I am and what I want to bring to the world. When I freelanced the first time in 2020 I had to pull a bunch of messaging together to represent who I was so I could do business. Going into freelancing this time that messaging just doesn’t fit anymore so I’m taking my time to figure out what I want to scream into the universe. One thing I am sure about though is I want to see a more connected future where ppl are more connected to each other and feel more taken care of. I want to be apart of that movement in what ever way I can.
This clip has been the theme for this year:
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. Lets be a light together!
